No communal or publicly accessible firefighting equipment will be provided by the site operator. The fire safety strategy is based on early detection, evacuation and calling 999.
All camper vans should carry either a suitable portable fire extinguisher or a fire blanket. These remain the responsibility of the vehicle owner and are not supplied, maintained or inspected by the site operator.
A minimum 1 kg ABC dry powder extinguisher or a recognised water-mist extinguisher suitable for vehicle and electrical fire risks. Where cooking facilities are installed, a fire blanket conforming to BS EN 1869 should also be provided.
ABC dry powder extinguishers typically have a service life of around 10 years. Water-mist extinguishers typically have a service life of 10–15 years depending on manufacturer guidance. Fire blankets generally have a service life of around 7 years and should be replaced if damaged, deployed or beyond the manufacturer recommended replacement date.
Each camper van shall be equipped with an in-date fire extinguisher and/or fire blanket maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Occupiers are responsible for inspection and replacement.
The absence of communal firefighting equipment is considered acceptable due to the open-air nature of the site, the limited number of camper vans permitted and the requirement for occupiers to provide their own basic fire-fighting equipment while prioritising evacuation and summoning the Fire and Rescue Service.
